Unstitched suit fabric: what to check before you buy

A practical checklist for unstitched suits: included pieces, fabric lengths and width, tailoring plans, photographs and care.

Kalindi editorial

An unstitched suit gives you the freedom to choose a silhouette and have it tailored to your measurements. Before buying one online, check exactly what fabric comes in the pack, the length of each piece and the care guidance. The product listing, rather than the category name, should answer those questions.

Start with what is included

Many unstitched suits are sold as fabric for a top, bottom and dupatta, but packs differ. Some include only a top and dupatta; others include a separate lining or decorative border. Read the “in the set” section and look at every product photograph. If a detail is unclear, ask before you order rather than assuming it is included.

Check measurements before visiting the tailor

Decide whether you want a straight kurta, A-line shape or another silhouette. Your tailor can tell you how much material that design needs, especially if you want full sleeves, extra flare or a longer kurta. Compare that requirement with the lengths stated on the product page. Keep a little room in your plan for seams and finishing.

If you are considering Kalindi’s stitching service, read the stitching guide for the current process and requirements. Do not order a standard ready-to-wear size assuming it will be tailored to your personal measurements.

Look beyond the colour on screen

Fabric can look different under daylight and indoor lighting. Check close-up photos for weave, texture, embroidery and border placement. A lightweight cotton may feel airy, while a denser woven fabric may hold a more structured shape; the exact drape depends on the piece. Read the stated composition and ask for help when a description is too general.

Plan care before the first wear

Printed, embroidered and embellished fabrics may need different care. Follow the product’s care label and test any cleaning method on an inconspicuous area when appropriate. Our fabric care guide explains the questions to ask before washing or ironing a new piece.

Before you place the order

  • Confirm every included piece and its individual length.
  • Check the fabric width and the design you want to have stitched.
  • Read the product-specific care and colour notes.
  • Review the returns and exchanges policy.

The best unstitched suit is one you can picture wearing and can confidently have made. If you are choosing between fabrics or need help understanding a listing, contact Kalindi and tell us the look you have in mind.

Does an unstitched suit always include top, bottom and dupatta fabric?

No. The pieces vary by product. Check the “in the set” details and the individual fabric lengths on the listing before ordering. Ask Kalindi if any component is unclear.
